Caladium -- Big, Fancy Leaves

Caladium is a tropical plant that loves warm, moist soil. If you’re looking to brighten up a dull corner, caladium is just the ticket with big, fancy leaves that are mottled, speckled, freckled or striped with green, red, pink, mauve or silver. For a real show stopper, plant caladium en masse or in containers.

Unless you live in a cool climate, be sure caladium has shade, especially during the afternoon. An hour or two of sunlight is enough and too much sun will wash out the bright colors. If possible, give the plant light or dappled shade.

If you're ambitious, you can dig the tubers in fall and store them for the winter. Or, you can take it easy and start with fresh tubers in spring, which may actually give you better results.
