Dianthus -- You Can Call Them Pinks

Pinks are old-fashioned flowers with a slightly delicate appearance and a spicy scent. Like cosmos, pinks aren’t the best choice for a perfectly manicured garden because the flowers have a ruffly, casual, rather disheveled appearance. (I mean this in the best possible way!) The blush-green foliage is almost as pretty as the flowers.
In spite of its name, pinks aren’t always pink – they are also lavender, white, rose, red, and a lot of other colors, too. I don’t know why pinks are called pinks, but I suspect it’s because in the early days, they were just that – pink.
