Fuchsias -- Dainty but Tough
Fuchsias may look delicate, fragile, and exotic, but in spite of their beauty, they are tough, easy-to-grow plants that bloom from spring until the temperature drops in autumn. Fuchsias are amazingly versatile and available in a huge range of colors, including various combinations of white, cream, purple, blue-violet, red, and pink.
If your goal is a hummingbird-friendly garden, you can’t miss with fuchsias. The little acrobats love the sweet, tube-shaped blooms. Plant a fuchsia or two and you won’t need a hummingbird feeder.
If you live in a cool, coastal area, you can plant fuchsia in bright sunlight. In warmer climates, be sure the plants are protected by shade during the afternoon. Unfortunately, fuchsias definitely aren’t a good fit for hot climates – even in shady areas.
